The Photographer’s Guide to Photo Contests

November 27, 2019 By PhotoContest.org Leave a Comment

PhotoShelter, the worldwide leader in visual asset management for professional photographers, released results from its seventh annual guide, The 2020 Photographer’s Guide to Photo Contests. The guide was developed in partnership with the World Photography Organisation, a global platform to honor, present and share the best contemporary photography from around the world. Inside, readers find tips for creating winning images, interviews with numerous contest winners and a list of 28 photo contests specifically recommended.

All 28 photo contest recommendations are based on four main criteria:

Entry fees
Prizes
Submission rights
Promised exposure

The guide can be downloaded directly here: https://resources.photoshelter.com/photographers-guide-photo-contests/

“This year we’ve included a gender and POC (person-of-color) breakdown of the juries because we believe that experience shapes the perception of photos and the reality that they depict,” says PhotoShelter Co-founder and Chairman Allen Murabayashi.

Featuring World Press Photo, the Sony World Photography Awards, Red Bull Illume, the Nikon Small World Photomicrography Contest, PDN Photo Annual, NPPA Best of Photojournalism, the Audubon Photography Awards, Aperture Portfolio Prize, the APA Awards and Px3.

The 2020 Photographer’s Guide to Photo Contests is the latest in PhotoShelter’s ongoing series of free business guides for photographers and marketing professionals. PhotoShelter’s library includes 70+ educational guides including topics such as photo workshops, photo licensing, Instagram hashtags for photographers, email marketing and creating a successful photography portfolio.
