Canon U.S.A., Inc. today announced the release of two advanced professional full-frame mirrorless cameras, the EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II. The EOS R1 is designed to meet the needs of professional photographers and videographers across various fields including sports, news, and high-end video production. Meanwhile, the EOS R5 Mark II is tailored for creators focusing on both still photography and video, featuring enhanced video functionalities and a sophisticated real-time multi-recognition tracking system.
The EOS R1 carries forward Canon’s legacy of high-performance, weather-resistant cameras. It boasts a back-illuminated stacked 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor paired with a new processing system for exceptionally fast readouts, minimizing “rolling shutter” distortions. It supports still-image shooting speeds of up to 40fps and features a “Cross-type AF” imaging sensor for precise focus on subjects with linear details. Additionally, it offers robust video capabilities, including 4K and 6K RAW video options.
For those who require top-tier performance and image quality, the EOS R5 Mark II stands ready. It is equipped with a back-illuminated stacked 45-megapixel full-frame sensor and an enhanced AF system that includes Eye Control AF and new subject tracking technologies. The camera integrates Cinema EOS video features such as Canon Log 2, False Color Wave Form Monitor, and 4-channel audio with 24-bit LPCM. It also includes a pre-recording feature of up to 5 seconds.
The EOS R5 Mark II comes with a new LP-E6P battery, offering higher continuous power and double the amperage compared to previous models. Optional accessories include three thoughtfully designed battery grips: the BG-R20 for vertical operability, the BG-R20EP with an Ethernet port for high-speed wired communication, and the CF-R20EP with a cooling fan to maximize movie performance.
Both cameras incorporate the new DIGIC Accelerator in addition to the DIGIC X processor, enhancing deep learning processing for rapid data analysis and supporting the advanced AF system, Dual Pixel Intelligent AF. This system leverages Accelerated Capture and deep learning for tracking advancements, enabling focus on body, joint, and head areas, as well as other people beyond the main subject.
The Canon EOS R1 is slated for release in the Fall of 2024, with an estimated retail price of $6,299.00. The EOS R5 Mark II will be available in August 2024, priced at $4,299.00 for the camera body alone, or $5,399.00 for the kit including the RF24-105mm F4 L IS USM lens.
