Canon U.S.A., Inc., renowned for its innovative digital imaging solutions, has unveiled three new hybrid RF L series lenses: RF24mm F1.4 L VCM, RF50mm F1.4 L VCM, and RF70-200 F2.8 L IS USM Z. Designed with the professional visual storyteller in mind, these lenses are tailored to meet the needs of photographers and videographers who often switch between stills and moving images, delivering exceptional quality across both formats. This latest expansion of Canon’s RF lineup reinforces the company’s ongoing dedication to serving high-level content creators with versatile, high-performing optics.

The RF24mm F1.4 L VCM and RF50mm F1.4 L VCM lenses are ideal choices for those aiming to produce impactful, dramatic visual content. Both lenses are engineered for hybrid use, catering specifically to professionals such as journalists, in-house creators, and photographers who require rapid adaptability. Featuring advanced optical designs that leverage the RF mount, these lenses ensure superb image quality throughout the entire frame. Their fast and accurate autofocus is driven by Canon’s latest focusing technology, delivering precision for both stills and video. The large f/1.4 aperture, combined with a wide-angle field of view, helps create vivid, prominent perspectives that bring scenes to life in remarkable detail. Moreover, these lenses are compact and lightweight, making them ideal for handheld shooting and easy integration with gimbals. Additional features include dual actuators for stable video with minimal focus breathing, customizable control rings, and ergonomic designs that support a smooth shooting experience.

Canon has also introduced the RF70-200 F2.8 L IS USM Z, a versatile telephoto lens suited for a range of scenarios, from sports and fashion to news reportage. Building upon the successful design of the RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z, this lens delivers high-quality imagery with an f/2.8 zoom aperture that offers rich, dramatic depth of field. It also features compatibility with extenders, allowing photographers to push their creative boundaries. The RF70-200mm lens is lightweight, gimbal-friendly, and includes an image stabilization system that provides up to 7.5 stops of stabilization when used with in-body IS, making it an excellent choice for dynamic video production. Its close-up shooting capability, robust construction, and intuitive controls further enhance its suitability for a wide range of shooting environments and creative applications.

Additionally, Canon is making strides in the realm of immersive content with the new RF-S7.8mm F4 STM DUAL lens, designed specifically for social media creators and enthusiast videographers exploring virtual reality and 3D storytelling. Unveiled at Apple’s WWDC 2024, this lens is crafted for use with the Canon EOS R7, contributing to the growing EOS VR System lineup. The RF-S7.8mm offers a 60-degree field of view that is perfect for capturing highly immersive VR content. With its simple, intuitive design, this lens makes the process of shooting 3D spatial video more accessible, even for beginners in VR. The content captured can be seamlessly converted into a range of formats, including 3D 180° VR, with tools like the EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro or the EOS VR Utility software. This easy-to-use VR solution is expected to democratize the creation of 3D and spatial content, lowering barriers for creators and offering new ways to engage audiences, from Apple Vision Pro users to Meta Quest enthusiasts.

Canon’s latest additions—the RF24mm, RF50mm, RF70-200mm, and RF-S7.8mm lenses—highlight the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation in imaging, expanding the creative possibilities for photographers, videographers, and VR content creators alike. With their exceptional features, these new RF lenses are set to provide users with powerful tools to elevate their storytelling, ensuring that their content stands out in both traditional and emerging visual formats.
